Artist Shirley Woodson described how she works: “I concentrate to blues, I concentrate to jazz.”

The showcase, composed of art work that Woodson revamped 3 many years, is named “Defend of the Nile Reflections,” which she says highlights the river’s significance to civilization.

Describing her 1984 paintings “Defend of the Nile No. 2,” Woodson stated, “I sought after to position those figures in an atmosphere of therapeutic, of recovery, of enjoyment — the entire issues that water represents.”

The couple had two sons. Woodson, who studied artwork at Wayne State College, and the College of the Artwork Institute of Chicago, spent 26 years instructing artwork to each highschool and faculty scholars.

Braver requested, “Your paintings was once promoting. Your paintings was once being bought via some museums. Why did you stay instructing when you had been nonetheless severely portray?”

“Educating and dealing as an artist for me was once like two-fold; one roughly fed into the opposite,” she spoke back. “I simply loved seeing folks develop. And I used to be finding out throughout the procedure as neatly. I painted at night time, I painted nearly in each room of the home.”
